It depends. Make sure you didn't indicate you paid property taxes elsewhere(farm, rental, or business) when it asks you this question in the Illinois interview. Also be careful how you answer the questions regarding your ownership of the property. According to this Illinois state link, you are eligible for the credit if:
- Your principal residence during the year preceding the tax year at issue was in Illinois, and
- You owned the residence, and
- You paid property tax on your principal residence (excluding any applicable exemptions, late fees, and other charges). See below for other exclusions.
