Deductions & credits

It depends. First of all, are you able to itemize your deductions this year or are you claiming a standard deduction. If you are not sure, go to federal>deductions and credits, and continue through the screens. You will eventually reach a screen that informs you that either the standard or itemized deduction is right for you. If it shows that the standard deduction is right for you, follow these steps.

  1. Go to federal>deductions and credits>Charitable Donations
  2. Donations to Charity in 2020>remove all charitable donations entered in this section of your return. After your donations have been removed, follow these steps.
  3.  Click "Federal" from the left side of your screen
  4. Click “Deductions &Credits” on the top
  5. Scroll all the way down and click the "Wrap up tax breaks" button
  6. Continue until the "Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act" screen
  7. Enter your charitable cash contributions up to $300
  8. Make sure to remove your charitable donation information from your return before entering this $300 cash contribution.

If you are able to itemize your deductions, leave your charitable donation information in. if you are still receiving this error, just remove the $300 from Box 10b or enter 0 if it insists on having a value recorded.
