Deductions & credits

You should not be trying to get the dependent care credit if you do not pay someone else to take care of your dependent so that you can work.  That is the purpose of that credit.  You do not get the credit for taking care of your dependent yourself.   You are confusing that credit with the credit for other dependents.

You claim your son as your dependent in My Info--enter his information there along with his Social Security number, etc.   You can indicate that he is disabled in order to get the $500 credit for other dependents.  When you enter him, it will automatically give you that credit and put it on line 12a of your Form 1040.
