State Tax Return after ITIN
I am a resident alien for tax purposes. My wife arrived in USA in 2019 and we filed jointly 2019 taxes along with her Form W-7 (ITIN application). We mailed our tax return + W7 form. She just now received the ITIN on Nov 16, 2020 -- way beyond the official deadline of tax filing. I know that the IRS will now go ahead and process our 2019 tax return -- which might take additional 1-2 months.
Since I have SSN and my wife got ITIN just now, my questions:
- Should we wait for IRS to process our federal tax return before we file our Indiana State tax return?
- In case we can just go ahead with Indiana State tax return without waiting for federal, how do we do it? I know I should go to TurboTax, enter my wife's ITIN and then electronically file State tax return. Is this correct?
- Since we filed physical tax return for federal, can we file State tax return electronically?

State tax filing
E-filing is closed permanently for 2019 returns. Your state return cannot be e-filed. You need to print it, sign it in ink and mail it to the state.

State tax filing
Ok, thanks! Regarding my first question: do I need to wait for the federal return or I can go ahead with the State return?

State tax filing
Go ahead with the state now... no need to wait on the federal.
