For your state return, to reset the question the easiest thing to do is actually to delete the return and start it over - it actually only takes a few minutes. I think you are probably talking about the California Head of Household test question but I can't be sure.
However, deleting the state will reset the question for all states and is fairly simple to do. The state will re-populate the bulk of the answers from your federal data and you will just have the state-specific questions to complete. It does not delete your primary data.
Follow these steps to reset your state tax return:
- Click on State in the menu on the left.
- Click Delete beside your state when it appears in the center of the screen.
- Confirm that you wish to delete the state.
- Add the state back in, which will reset the program so that you can answer the question.
