Aha! I suspect u may be right and that it's a vestige that is hanging around for the Max version. Based on the fact that XX was not flagged in the single state 1099-INT, but in the 8-state 1099-INT, I think I'll edit the form entry from MX to XX and see whether that gets me past Smart Check. The total for the 8-state is correct.
