State tax filing
Did you earn any income while you were away at school? If you did not earn any income you do not say you lived in another state. Living away at school is considered to be a "temporary absence" from home and your parents who claim you as a dependent can still say you lived at home with them.
If you had a job while you were away at school and made money in that other state, you will need to prepare a non-resident tax return for that state, and a resident return for the "home" state.
