Did changing the option to Non-Resident North Carolina Income solve the doubling of the income?
I can't think of a situation where the software asks about doubling income unless there was an instance of a married couple wanting to file separately for North Carolina, but that is just me making a wild guess.
If you are using TurboTax Online, it may be helpful to look at forms when something seems strange.
