State tax filing

TurboTax will transfer gambling winnings and losses from federal to your New Jersey return.

Here's what to do in TurboTax Onlinie:

  1. Select Federal in the left column
  2. Then Wages & Income
  3. Go to Gambling Winnings in Less Common Income, then Start
  4. On "Did you win money or other prizes in 2022?" say YES
  5. On "Did you receive a W-2G?" answer YES or NO
  6. If you did not receive Form W-2G, enter your gambling winnings on "Let's check for winnings not reported on a W-2G"
  7. On "Let us know if you had any gambling losses in 2022" enter your gambling losses

New Jersey allows taxpayers to  "deduct all types of gambling losses, including those
from playing the New Jersey Lottery, from their total gambling winnings during the tax period
not to exceed the total of the winnings because gambling is a “net” category of income."

See Gambling Winnings or Losses.
