Yes, you can deduct alimony paid from your NY income if it was included in your federal income (post-2018 decrees). If your decree was pre-2019 you can deduct the payments from your federal return and they will be automatically excluded from NY. You can make that federal deduction in the "Other Deductions and Credits" section.
- Continue the NY interview and after the "Residency" section you will arrive at the "changes to Federal Income" page
- Scroll down to "Other NY Adjustments"
- "Start" the "Other changes to your federal income" topic
- The first page will be additions and the second page will be subtractions
- Find the box for Alimony/Separate Maintenance Payments
