State tax filing

Yes. Delete the number that is no longer valid. New York asks for a telephone number in case they need to contact you about something.

 

The phone number is optional. New York says, "This entry will enable the Tax Department to correct minor errors or omissions by calling you rather than writing or sending back your return."

 

Many tax scams are done by telephone. Do not give out any personal information unless you are sure your are speaking with the Department of Taxation and Finance.
