Yes, the Minnesota 183 day rule does apply to you. The only exceptions are for Military and for residents of Michigan and ND. This means you will need to file a resident or part year return for Minnesota if your income is greater than $12,525.
If you are still returning to your home in IL when you are not in school or when school is done, you would then you would also file a resident return for IL.
