Lived and worked in Texas but moved to MA for last month of year
Hello,
I worked in Texas for all but 1 month.
That one month I lived in Massachussetts (MA).
I became a resident in MA for that 1 month and I am still a resident today (I relocated for work)
I never lived or worked or had a home in MA until this last month of 2021. Never stepped foot in MA.
I believe that the entire state tax taken from my W2 should be refunded to me.
However, Turbo Tax wants me to split the gross income between TX and MA and I put the small amount of MA income while I was a resident and put 0 for Non Resident which is what it defaulted to and then Turbo Tax says I need to remove the "Schedule RNR" and once I do, the 100% state refund that showed prior to removing the Schedule RNR all goes to 0 and I dont receive any state tax refund. I dont think this is correct. I shouldnt pay any state taxes on the MA income since I was not a resident until the last month of 2021.
Is my understanding correct? I have read other topics and I believe that my understanding is correct but I dont know how to show the refund in Turbo Tax.
here is another thread on this topic and says I should receive a refund:
How to file state tax if I worked for a company in... (intuit.com)
Grateful for the help.
