State tax filing
File a nonresident North Carolina income tax return.
- In the North Carolina section, go to Part-Year and Nonresident Income.
- Continue to Nonresident Income Allocations.
- Rental/Royalty Income (Loss) will show the amount reported on your Form 1040. Enter the NC portion (North Carolina Income While Nonresident).
If you filed your 2017-2019 returns with TurboTax, you can go back to TurboTax and Add a State to add a NC nonresident return for those years. You will not be able to e-file. Print and mail your returns. You can mail them together. We suggest sending them by certified mail with return receipt so you have proof that they were received by NC.
