After you file

No, you cannot amend from TT online. You have to have your original tax file.

You would have to re-enter your original tax file. Select file by mail (but don't actually print and mail). Then you can amend.

Before contacting TT support, you may want to try preparing an amended return by hand. Even if you fail, you'll be bettre prepared to talk to support.

Here are the forms:

https://www.tax.ohio.gov/portals/0/forms/ohio_individual/individual/2018/PIT_IT1040_Bundle.pdf

Or go here for PDF fill in (note the Windows 10 warning) https://www.tax.ohio.gov/Forms.aspx

Major items:

  • check the amended box at the top
  • Show the $1700 paid on line 17
  • Show your Ohio wages on line 12 of Schedule A
  • That should make lines 25 & 26 of the Ohio Schedule of credits the same
  • That should make line 27 0% (the amount of your income taxable by OH).

The reciprocity agreement does not apply to local city taxes. You are not required to file a local city return, but you are also not entitled to a refund of the city withholding (box19 on your W-2), unless there was an error in the amount. If you are subject to a KY county or city tax, you should check to see if the KY city will give you a credit for the OH city tax withheld. KY does allow an itemized deduction (Schedule A) for local tax paid.
