After you file
First. go to our e-file status lookup tool to ensure your return was submitted. If it was, make sure when checking your refund status on the IRS2Go or Where's My Refund? site, to only enter your federal income amount, not federal and state combined. Another important factor can be if you are married filing jointly and make sure you are using the Social Security Number for the name that appears first on the return.
If your return was accepted less than 21 days ago, hang in there. It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks to go from acceptance to approval. This time frame is unrelated to how, where, or when you filed and it isn't connected to how quickly you got your refund last year.
IRS representatives will be able to research the status of your refund if your return was accepted (received) more than 21 calendar days ago.

- Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
- Then press 3 "for all other questions."
- Then press 2 "for all other questions." It should then transfer you to an agent, but prepare for potentially long wait times. Why is there no record of my return at Where's My Refund (WMR)?
