After you file
TurboTax does not have your W-2 unless you enter it or import it; it does not automatically go to your Documents folder. You can only import it if your employer is a participating partner, not everyone can import their W-2 forms. Even if your employer is a partner, you still need a few pieces of information from the W-2 to import it successfully. See below.
There are a few ways you can add your W-2 to your tax return in TurboTax:
- Import it instantly from your employer, see below.
- Upload it from your computer
- Snap a photo of it with your phone
- Type it in manually
To import your W-2:
We need the Box 1 amount from your W-2 or the year-to-date (YTD) gross income from your year-end pay stub. In some cases, we may need the Box d Control Number from your W-2, but only if your payroll provider requires it. 3 steps to import a w2 into TurboTaxOnline
You should get a copy of your w2 from your employer and enter it manually if you can't import it.
