Never click on anything that says "amend" if the return has not been filed and fully processed by the IRS. You do not use "amend" to make changes to a return that has not ever been filed and accepted by the IRS. To make changes to a return that has not been filed, you can click on "add a state." You do not have to really add a state return; that trick will allow you back in to the software to make changes and edit your entries before you e-file.
