You say that you filed by sending in your return via certified mail and paid your tax due with a credit card. Did you get back a receipt showing that the IRS received the certified mail? Your proof that you paid will be your credit card statement showing that the IRS took out your payment. Do you have a credit card statement? Did the IRS send you a letter that says you did not pay your tax due?
