After you file

@tattamy If you made changes to your pending return----restore the return to exactly the way it was before you made those changes.   The changes you made while the return was pending did not go to the IRS.   Those changes just messed up your return for the purposes of amending correctly later on.   If you need to amend using a 1040X you have to be able to work from the return exactly as it was when you e-filed it originally.   Wait until the return has been fully processed before you attempt to amend using Form 1040X.   Sometimes the IRS catches mistakes and corrects them for you.

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
