After you file
Then you should amend your 2023 return to include the Form 1099-SA. The distribution information will then be reported on Form 8889.
If the money was spent for qualified medical expenses, then there will be no change in your return's bottom line. However, at some point the IRS may match income documents and notice that the Form 1099-SA was not reported as part of your return. If that is the case, they do not know whether it was spent for medical purposes and would assume it is taxable income that was not reported.
