After you file
Here are some ideas to get your W-2.
- Contact your employer Contact your employer to see if the W-2 has ben sent, and request a duplicate.
- Check Online. Many employers provide websites for their employees.
- TurboTax provides an option at Easily and accurately import your W-2
- You will have to log into TurboTax, or setup a TurboTax account.
- You will have to have some basic information.
- We need the Box 1 amount from your W-2 or the year-to-date (YTD) gross income from your year-end pay stub.
- In some cases, we may need the Box d Control Number from your W-2, but only if your payroll provider requires it.

- Contact the IRS: If you could not get it from your employer after multiple attempts you can contact the IRS.
- You can call toll-free at 1-800-829-1040 or contact a Taxpayer Assistance Center Local IRS Office.
- You can request a transcript.
- The transcript does not contain any state information and may be complicated to read.
