to open any Turbotax xxx.tax2YYY file the app for that year must be installed. the disk the original 2023 return was stored on may have gone bad which would make recovery of the file impossible.
also TT2023 requires a 64-bit operating system whereas prior years worked with 32-bit operating systems.
