After you file

Yes, as the executor of the estate you can get copies of tax returns filed by a deceased taxpayer by completing and mailing a  Form 4506-T.  You will need to include a copy of the death certificate and a court document naming you as the executor.

 

NOTE:  There is a fee ($43) for this process that you must include/pay with your request. 

 

Be sure when completing the Form 4506-T you use your aunt’s address from her last filed return in box 3 and the address where you want the return to be mailed in box 5.  

 

The instructions list addresses where you need to send the request that are based on the state of residence when she filed the return (state in box 3).
