After you file

Your software is not "expired."   You have three years from the filing deadline to file a tax return and receive a tax refund.   Many people who have not yet prepared their 2022 returns will be purchasing and using that same software.   The cost of the software is the same whether you e-file or mail the return.  The fee is for using the software to prepare the return instead of sitting down with a paper forms, a calculator and a 108 page IRS instruction book.  E-filing is closed for 2022 returns---it closed after October 31.   The 2022 return can only be filed by mail.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
