You say you had no job. What "student refund" are you asking about? Are you perhaps confused about the American Opportunity Credit? If you could be claimed as someone else's dependent (parents?) then they are the ones who get to claim the education credit. Please clarify what you are asking about. And....did you see an amount on line 35a of your Form 1040?
