tagteam is quite correct that many CPAs do not do income tax.
I was surprised to learn that at my nearby university (the University of Texas at Dallas, with 23,000 students) that you can get a B.A. in Accounting without taking a single course in Taxation.
However, you can also look to Enrolled Agents, because tax is all they do in one way or another. In either case, the CPA or the Enrolled Agent should advertise that they do federal income tax, at the least, and all of them will likely have access to the commercial software to do prior year returns (federal and state).
