After you file

Was your e-file accepted?   If it happens to get rejected then you can still make that correction and re-file, and pay as much as possible with the return.   Or request a payment plan.

 

As for requesting a payment plan based on the incorrect return you filed--if they accepted the e-file, it will take awhile for the IRS to process it and catch your mistake.   I would hold off on requesting a payment plan at this time, since the IRS system does not yet show that you owe money to them.

 

You could make a partial payment now on the IRS site and request a plan later.
