If you did not use a tracking service when you mailed the return then you will not know if the IRS even received the return.
There is only one number you can call to speak with an IRS agent and as the link below states only about 10% of the calls are answered by the IRS - Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
