@brockw , if filed on time ( i.e. by the local mid-night of the filing deadline ), the approval of the extension is automatic. Your TurboTax file should include a copy of the form filed ( 4868 ) -- that is all the proof you will generally have.
Why do you need documentation on this ? Applying for a mortgage or what ?
