After you file
It is possible that the return was completed, but for some reason, the e-file did not complete.
If the return was e-filed, an email would have been sent at least acknowledging that the tax return had been received (accepted). To easily track the progress of the return, go to:
- Our E-File Status Lookup Tool or IRS: Where's my refund? for updates.
- Check for state filing status here: State Return Refund Tracking.
Otherwise, there is a chance the tax return was set to paper file. To check, log back in to your TurboTax program. After opening TurboTax, follow these steps from the Tax Home page:
- Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents, select Show, and then select 2020.
- Select Add a state to reopen your return and see the standard left menu.
- Navigate to File and go through the steps again to see what was set up.
- Step 3 of 3, Get ready to save and file your returns is where the filing method can be changed if it has not been e-filed yet.
If needed, verify the account used to complete your return. There can be different user names under the same email which may be causing some confusion. See: How many Intuit Accounts do I have with TurboTax?
