After you file
In order to complete a Maryland amendment you need to have a copy of your originally filed returned that taxes the unemployment benefits.
If you have a copy printed or downloaded that you can access already, you can follow these steps.
- Sign in to TurboTax
- Select "Add a state"
- The updates should already be in TurboTax that now exclude the unemployment.
- Go to the MD state interview and click through to the "Amendment" in "Other tax situations"
- Click "Yes" you want to amend
- In the column for the original return information you will enter the data from your copy of the original return
If you do not have a copy of your originally filed return you have to create one.
- Sign in to TurboTax
- Select "Add a state"
- Click "Federal" in the left hand menu
- Click "Wages & Income" tab
- Scroll to "Unemployment 1099G"
- "Edit" the 1099G
- Add 10,200 to your box 1 amount to eliminate the exclusion.
- "Continue"
- Click "Tax tools" in the left hand menu
- Click "Print Center"
- Print a copy of the now original return
- Go back to the Unemployment" topic and remove the 10,200 that you added in
- Follow the steps in the section above to complete the MD state amendment
