After you file
When the tax return is received, it is marked accepted, which means received. When the IRS has processed the return, then it will advance to approved.
If there are any issues with the return, the IRS must redirect the processing for review. There is a backlog of returns being reviewed and recalculated that will cause delays.
What you can do while you wait is to create or log in to your account at the IRS to get more information than what is available at Where's My Refund.
To do this, go to: IRS View Your Tax Account. Otherwise, to contact the IRS, call 1-800-829-1040 and they are open Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM. For more contact resources, see IRS Let Us Help You.
