After you file

Getting your Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) depends on how much money you forgot to include. If adding your W-2s makes you ineligible due to income limits, then you may lose some or all of your RRC.

Your credit amount will be reduced if your adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than:

  • $150,000 if married and filing a joint return or filing as a qualifying widow or widower
  • $112,500 if filing as head of household or
  • $75,000 for eligible individuals filing as a single or as married filing separately.

Forgetting your W-2s may be the reason your tax return is still in processing.

If it's been more than 21 days since your return was accepted, you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and they can research your refund.

Having the return in the IRS system will put you in line for the third stimulus.

You are correct about amended returns. Do not file one until you received your refund. It's possible the IRS may correct your return.
