After you file
Your only proof that you paid your state tax due is your own bank/credit card records. How did you pay? Look at the page of filing instructions that printed out with your Form 1040. What does it say about how you were supposed to pay the state? If you believed you were paying with a federal refund--that was a mistake--a federal refund can never--never--pay state tax due.
Most states want to be paid by check or money order, or by credit/debit card on the state's web site.
