What will happen with my return

I filed my ‘17 return on paper in February of 2019, I owed 1700(ish) dollars because I didn’t carry my children, my wife did. Also, I haven’t heard anything from the IRS about the ‘17 return. I e-filed my ‘18 return in April of ‘19 with EITC, I’m getting a pretty nice refund. So my question is, will the way I filed slow up my return? Will the IRS take money from my return or will it be up to me to pay them once I get it? On where’s my refund it’s showing accepted and it’s been about ten days since I filed.

After you file

You did not mention whether you paid the tax due when you mailed in your 2017 return. Since it is late, you will also owe a late filing penalty and interest. You say you e- filed 2018 and are receiving EIC, so you must have filed a joint return for 2018. If you did not pay your tax due when you filed 2017 then your 2018 refund is likely to be offset for the tax owed for 2017—if the IRS has already processed the mailed 2017 return. Nothing will show up on WMR for the 2017 return; watch the IRS site to see what they do with 2018.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20a of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
