No the 1040ES are not automatically paid.  They are optional to pay and don't get sent with your return.  The IRS will not be expecting them.  They are just a suggestion so you don't owe so much next year.  They are estimated prepayments for next year 2020 return. You don't have to pay them.  Or you can cross out the amount and write in a different amount.

 

You mail the 1040ES with a check or go online to pay them.

Be sure to pick the right kind of payment and year.....2020 Estimate
