After you file

If you are recently divorced and filed joint returns with your spouse in  past years, you should talk with your own attorney about obtaining copies of those tax returns.  You have every right to copies of those tax returns if they were filed with your name on them.  

 

You can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $50 an actual copy--but your attorney should be able to get your ex to hand over a copy to you.
