After you file

Even in normal times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return.  These are not normal times, so you will likely be waiting for months.  Sorry.  They are not even opening mailed returns right now, so although normally you would be able to see something on the IRS site after about three weeks, your return might still be sitting in a bin.

Per the IRS website IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continueThe IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your economic impact payment. Paper returns will be processed  once processing centers are able to reopen.
