After you file

You are confusing the 6 digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) assigned by the IRS with the self chosen 5 digit e-file signing pin that you choose yourself.

TurboTax asks if you have an IP PIN or you can use the search topics box for "ip pin" to enter it.

The IND-031-04 reject wants either the 5 digit self-chosen pin or last years AGI form the 2017 tax return.

If the 2017 adjusted gross income (AGI) or self-select PIN you entered for yourself and/or your spouse doesn't match the numbers in the IRS database, you'll get one or both of these rejections:

  • IND-031-04: The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records
  • IND-032-04: The spouse's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year doesn't match IRS records

We'll show you how to fix and re-file your return. Select your platform for instructions:

How do I add or remove my 6-digit IP PIN?

  1. Open your return if you don't already have it open.
  2. Inside TurboTax, search for IP PIN (don't forget the space) and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes and enter your IP PIN in the space provided.
    • If you need to remove the IP PIN, answer No instead.
  4. Select Continue.
