After you file
It takes about 21 days to receive your refund from the IRS when you e-file and choose direct deposit as your refund choice. Please remember this time frame is just an estimate that the IRS provides and those dates vary from individual to individual. Websites that show a refund date of February 14 are basing that on estimations for dates of when tax returns were accepted.
Also make sure you are entering the correct information on the IRS website or when you call the IRS when you are checking your refund status.
To locate your refund information:
- Open your return if it's not already open.
- On the Tax Home screen, scroll down and select Add a State (don't worry, we're not adding a state) to access your tax forms and worksheets.
- In the left menu, select Tax Tools then Print Center.
- On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year's return.
- On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2019 federal returns and Include Government and TurboTax Worksheets (optional), then select View or Print Forms.
- The information will be on the first page, Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2019 Federal Tax Return look for Balance Due/Refund.
For more on the timing of your refund please see this TurboTax FAQ.
Now, if you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) you may have a delay.
Please see this TurboTax FAQ: Some 2019 federal refunds are delayed due to the PATH Act for more information.
To check on a state refund please visit your state Department of Revenue website.
