After you file

Your returns must be accepted before the 21 days start.  The 21 days is stated by the IRS to issue refunds from the acceptance date of your return & if there are no issues with the processing of your return.  No one can give you the date or time you will receive your refund, only the IRS can. If you have a state refund, only your state can tell you when they will issue your refund.

The IRS states that nine out of 10 e-filed tax returns with direct deposit will be processed within 21 days of IRS e-file acceptanceMailed paper returns: If you filed a paper return, please allow 4 weeks before checking the status. Refund processing time is 6 to 8 weeks from the date the IRS receives your tax return.

The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting February 27,  if these taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.
