The FAQ tells how one can transfer a 2018 return into a new 2019 return on a Mac. When you follow all the steps in the FAQ below, do you see the option "Use a tax return that's on my computer?"

If those are the exact steps you tried, but you didn't encounter the "Use a tax return that's on my computer" then we'll have to wait for macuser_22 to help here.
