Are there laws for timing to receive a tax refund? No.
The IRS will not be accepting any type of tax return until January 23, 2017.
If your tax return has a tax refund that includes EIC and/or the Additional Child Tax Credit the IRS will hold the return until February 15, 2017. Payment of the refund to be sent during the week of February 27.
The IRS has a target of sending a tax refund within 21 days after the tax return has been accepted by the IRS. However, this is a target only and is not a guarantee. The IRS can hold a tax return for as long as necessary if there are any discrepancies or other issues with the tax return.
