A couple months ago I requested an IP PIN from the IRS; after completing the online form, it gave me the PIN, referring to it as my "2022 Identity Protection PIN." I've just finished my taxes with Turbotax, which asked me to enter PIN, and I entered that number.
Now I'm ready to e-file with TurboTax, and on the page where I sign my 2021 return, it shows my 2021 filing PIN: a different PIN than the one I mentioned above for 2022, however I now realize I had a PIN before, and it is showing the correct older PIN.
Is my 2022 PIN only for 2022 taxes, or should I use that for my 2021 return? Does that new PIN make the older PIN no longer valid? Not sure which PIN to use.
