And you did not have to use "refund processing"---you could pay the fee upfront using a credit card. If you have been using TurboTax desktop software for many years, it is odd that you have not been aware of the state e-file fee. The software only included the state program to prepare the state return. There has been a fee to e-file state returns for many years when you use desktop software.
