The error has to do with a qualifying widow(er) filing status. If you are filing using that status then a dependent is also required on your return.
- First, verify in the federal "Personal Info" interview your filing status and dependents are correct.
- Then click "Online" at the top left of your TurboTax screen
- Select "Check for updates"
- Follow the prompts to ensure you have all the updates.
- Once that process is complete close the program and re-open.
- Go to "Forms View" in the upper right of your screen.
- Find your MN form M1 in the left hand menu and select it.
- Check the filing status boxes and dependents for accuracy.
- If everything looks good go back to "step-by-step"
- Click the "File" tab in the upper middle of your screen
- Try the efile steps again
