If TurboTax can't import your W-2 form, you'll have to enter it manually. To navigate to that section of TurboTax, see the following steps:
- From Tax Home, open or continue your return
- In the search bar, search for W-2
- Select the Jump to link at the top of the search results
- At the Let's get your W-2 info screen, select Work on my W-2 and Continue
- If you land on the Here’s your W-2 info screen, select Add another W-2
- When asked to enter your employer's EIN, leave this section blank and Continue
- On the next screen, select Type it in myself and Continue
- Follow the instructions on the next screens to manually enter your W-2 info
There's several reasons why TurboTax can't import your W-2:
- The employer's EIN (Employer Identification Number) is missing
- The Control Number (W-2, box D) is missing
- The box 1 amount is missing (try substituting the YTD or Year To Date gross federal wages amount from your final 2021 pay stub)
- Your employer's payroll service isn't a TurboTax Import Partner
