Get your taxes done using TurboTax
As a single filer, you do receive an automatic deduction of $12,550. Since you received more pandemic relief than that, you will not get all the taxes you paid back, but you may get some, depending on how much you already paid.
You can enter medical expenses into the TurboTax system. However, it will only impact your tax return if your medical expenses and other deductions like mortgage interest, charitable contributions, and property taxes are greater than the automatic deduction of $12,550. It can't hurt to enter all your expenses and let TurboTax calculate which is best for you. To enter your medical expenses:
- With your return open, search for Schedule A and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
- Enter your medical expenses, starting with prescriptions, on the following screens.
All the expenses must be paid for out-of-pocket in order to be deductible.
