In general, with TurboTax Deluxe Online you should be able to report income on a Schedule C but if you need to report expenses TurboTax Self-Employed is required. VolvoGirl is correct about the exceptions above. Without seeing the return, I cannot say why it may have let you report expenses in that version last year.

and
TurboTax Self-Employed handles income and expenses from self-employment (Schedule C) and farms (Schedule F), along with all forms and schedules in Premier.
